Featuring the rich bass voice of narrator McBride Hunter, with original guitar music composed by Olivier Leclerc, Strum is a unique, unforgettable experience - an epic tale that crosses geography, time, and cultures.
The Story: In 1950s Quebec, a deaf woodworker, Bernard Tenderfield, is drawn deep into the woods when he hears a lulling melody in his dreams. The forest gives him an unexpected gift - an ancient cedar falls at his feet, and he nearly loses his life salvaging part of the fallen tree to build two magical guitars.
From there, the story moves back and forth, tracing Bernard's French and Iroquois bloodline through time with the magical allure of the instrument connecting his family. Strum spans two centuries, moving from modern Canada to the 19th century French Alps to Southeast Asia and beyond, and introduces a gripping cast of characters who have moving tales to tell. Rich with beautiful imagery and thought-provoking symbolism, this debut novel will stay with listeners long after they finish the final minute.
Strum is winner of seven awards: 2016-17 Library Journal Top Ten Most Requested Self-e book (2nd Fantasy); 2014 USA Best Book Award (Finalist: Literary); 2014 Independent Publishers Book Award - IPPY Silver Medal (Best Reg'l Fiction, Canada); 2014 New York, Hollywood, San Francisco and Great Northwest Book Festivals.

Independent Publishers' Book Award-Winning Authors and Publishers Share Their Resolutions
BY LAUREN WHITE
2014 was a year of monumental changes in the publishing industry – changes that impacted everyone, from publicists and authors to editors and readers. We decided to find out how some of our 2014 IPPY award-winners are responding to another year’s worth of experience by asking for their New Year’s resolutions, and they delivered. The contributions below are varied, including general goals and specific marketing tactics, but there is one constant: these award-winners are making things happen. Cheers to 2015!
Nancy Young, author of Strum, 2014 IPPY Silver Medalist:
“2014 was a bumper year for me – six book awards including an IPPY Silver Medal and an USA Best Book Finalist Award! Never in my wildest dreams did I think those accolades would come to a first-time novelist. My New Year’s resolution is to ride out this good luck wave as far as my literary sea will take me! When a writer receives an award, it’s our obligation to keep on writing, to keep on offering what is real and true. As Ernest Hemingway once said, 'All good books have one thing in common, they are truer than if they had really happened.' I resolve to keep my light burning bright and my words in front of many readers, because writing is an act of love.”
